Nomad eSIM Review

What they do instead is quietly offer some of the most practical regional plans in the market, particularly for Asia. The App Situation

Let's be honest: the app needs work. It's functional but feels like it was designed by backend developers who prioritized making things work over making things pretty. Navigation is straightforward enough: you pick a region or country, select a plan, and check out. But the visual design lags behind competitors like Airalo or Saily. Plan details sometimes require extra taps to reveal, and the data usage tracking is basic, just a percentage bar without much granularity. None of this prevents you from using the service effectively, but if you're comparing apps side by side in the store, Nomad won't win any beauty contests.

Pricing

This is where Nomad quietly wins. Their entry point is $3.50, among the lowest in the market. But the real savings show up in regional plans. A 10 GB Southeast Asia plan from Nomad costs noticeably less than buying separate 3 GB plans for Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia from Airalo. I did the math on my last trip: Nomad saved me roughly $14 across three countries compared to buying individual eSIMs elsewhere. Not life-changing money, but multiplied across several trips a year, it adds up. The catch is that Nomad doesn't offer unlimited data, so if you're the type who wants to forget about data management entirely, you'll need to look at Holafly or YeSIM instead.

Speed & Reliability

In Southeast Asia, Nomad connects to solid local carriers. In Thailand, I was on AIS, one of the country's top networks, and got reliable 4G everywhere from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. Vietnam via Viettel was also consistently good, even in smaller cities like Hoi An. Japan is another strong market for Nomad, with fast and reliable connections through SoftBank. Europe performance was decent but not exceptional, comparable to what you'd get from Airalo or Ubigi. Nomad's sweet spot is clearly Asia, and if that's where you travel most, you'll notice the quality difference.

Support & Documentation

Customer support is available via email and in-app chat. I had one issue in Cambodia where my eSIM wouldn't connect after a phone restart, and the chat agent walked me through resetting the network settings, which fixed it within five minutes. Responses were quick, under ten minutes in my experience. The help center has solid articles for common setup scenarios but lacks the depth you'd find at Airalo. For Android users especially, some device-specific instructions are missing, which can be frustrating if you're troubleshooting abroad with limited connectivity.

Who Gets the Most from Nomad

Backpackers and multi-country travelers in Asia: that's Nomad's audience, and they serve it well. If you're planning a two-week Southeast Asia circuit or a Japan-Korea combo trip, Nomad's regional plans offer genuine savings and convenience over buying separate eSIMs. For Europe or single-country trips, other providers match or beat them. The app could use polish, but the underlying service is reliable and well-priced. Sometimes the best travel tool isn't the prettiest one. It's the one that just works every time you cross a border.
