I've had a very smooth and reliable experience using Airalo. The setup process was straightforward, the app interface is clean and intuitive, and activation took only a few minutes. Data speeds were stable and perfectly adequate for navigation, emails, messaging, and even video calls.
I had a problem on the road with my laptop that needed to be rebuilt and for that I needed to access internet for identity validation. Using Airalo helped me to use my cell phone as access point and was able to restore laptop. Fast and reliable connection.
Easy to install esim prior to leaving home country and activate on landing at destination. A secure way to stay in touch with home and communicate within the country you are visiting.
Very easy to deal with and their products are competitive and always deliver. I have used them many times and would be happy to recommend Airalo to my family and friends.
I am happy with good connectivity. I just want to get some discount since I have been using this platform for a while.
Negative Reviews
I purchased a 14 day e-sim for travel in Argentina. It did not work. I took the phone to a phone repair store in El Calafate, Argentina but after an hour of trying they could not get it to work. Airalo offers no actual support.
Airalo's customer support and refund process has been incredibly frustrating and has led nowhere. I've spent far too much time trying to get a straightforward resolution, only to be met with slow responses, repeated back-and-forth, and no real ownership of the issue.
I made a trip to China and Thailand and ordered eSIM cards for both countries. The app was showing the SIM cards were working until I received a bill of more than 130 euros. Customer support ghosted me. I couldn't even get the money back.
I paid for Airalo for two months while in Mexico and it seldom worked. I spent hours texting to their AI and colleagues trying to resolve issues. For my last month of travel I went back to using a physical Telcel SIM card.
After ONE WEEK, Airalo disabled the top-up option without warning. They casually said the package 'no longer supports top-ups.' Because of THEIR decision, I lost communication with my elderly father while travelling.

The absolute best experience I've had while traveling internationally. They offer multiple packages that allow you to ONLY use data but who needs that when you have access to FaceTime, Facebook, and WhatsApp! They offer the best rates for the best service wherever you travel.
I use this esim wherever I go. With the most recent update, the esim installs so efficiently and fixes all your settings for you. Made it so much easier to use!! If I run out or need more gb, I just top it up. Perfect!
I have Verizon in the U.S. and they don't lock your phones from using travel e-sims anymore so I bought the 30G Airalo e-sim before my trip. Had a 23 day trip to Thailand and never had a single issue, always had amazing service!
The problem of cell service when traveling is miserable, this makes it easy. Took a little bit to get it figured out the very first time but since then it's been smooth sailing and compared to my AT&T international plan this has easily saved me hundreds of dollars.
I have used Airalo for travel all over the world, from Asia to Europe to the Americas and it never disappoints. Very easy to use and very reliable.
Negative Reviews
I bought 50 gigs while I was in the states, landed in Manila Airport couldn't get it connected. I followed all the steps on now on my third hour of trying and completely giving up. It's a scam with no customer service.
I paid $35 for unlimited coverage for 10 days in Malaysia, on the second day I wake up and I have 0 service. I had to drive around aimlessly until I found a business with free WiFi. I ended up going back to the airport and buying a new eSIM.
Even after paying for the service and having a full 4 bars of service in Hyderabad on my brand new iPhone, the data speeds were so incredibly slow that I couldn't even do simple web search. Don't even bother trying to use Google Maps navigation.
eSIM set up didn't work despite all system requirements being fine. The support agent tried to help via chat. No success. Promised a refund of the purchase but after almost a month the money is not back in my bank account.
I have used the app for sometimes. I became platinum traveller. Unfortunately, my recent several experiences were extremely disappointing. I bought 10gb and it was consumed in less than 30mins. They made it difficult and avoided a refund.

Their eSIMs are good value and we've had no issues with them, including the Internet speed. We've used them in about 10 different countries. They also give you a sort of cash back credit to buy the next eSIM. It's also nice that they offer 3 different ways to install the eSIM, including QR code so i
I had terrible data issues on all recent trip using Airalo. Got 4G+ and full bars, but sites didn't load, couldn't download email etc. Turns out it was not their fault. I installed SurfShark VPN, and while I was connected to VPN, everything worked perfectly. I'm not sure what is up with some of the
I have used Airalo 3 times on trips to New Zealand. The app has worked beautifully for me each time. This most recent time was my best installation experience yet. Greatly improved automation in that arena. Good job tech team!! Recommended to my friends and their 1st time was a great experience as w
very slow in Osaka Japan. we'll see if it gets better in Kyoto and tokyo. I'm editing my reviews. after adjusting all our phones after we came to Osaka, the connection went great. The performance and connection out of our hotel was great from Osaka, Kyoto and Tokyo. We used it for maps, YouTube, pay
I would have given this 5 stars if the installation and set up were a little bit more stream line / a little easier. However, I used Airalo for my trip to Dublin, Ireland. I was gone for 17 days, and it was awesome being able to immediately connect to their cell service upon walking out of the plane

A lot of weird technical problems. Trying to purchase an eSIM with Google Pay and got a message about being in a "test environment". Tried PayPal and it took me to a PayPal sandbox URL. Tried the website, but it kept redirecting me to the app until I uninstalled it. Finally logged into the website b
Horrible product with worse customer service. I had to a lot of fussing around (outside of following the standard instructions) to get data to work. We paid extra for phone numbers so we could use voice calling and texting. I spent hours messaging back and forth with their customer service, but was
The service works, but with extremely slow response times. They route all your traffic through their servers in the Netherlands, regardless of where you are in the world, causing extremely high latency and ping times (as much as 2-4 *seconds*), making general web browsing painfully slow, even if the
Been using them for over 3 years now. Service has been up and down, and installing a new eSim is often challenging. In my last experience they did not manage to get me connected over 3 days, and after spending endless hours going through repeated loops time was up and I had to leave the country. It
Installation remains a pain with too verbose and confusing instructions (at least for my Samsung S24). It worked OK for a recent trip to Botswana, but we couldn't get it to work for Namibia (we tried multiple times). If you're from South Africa, just use data roaming. In Namibia it is also easy to j
In-Depth Review
Setting up Airalo is remarkably straightforward. After downloading the app from the App Store or Google Play, you create an account in under a minute. The onboarding process walks you through eSIM compatibility checks for your device, which is a thoughtful touch for first-time eSIM users who might not know whether their phone supports the technology. Once you've confirmed compatibility, browsing and purchasing an eSIM plan takes just a few taps. Airalo offers both local plans (for a single country) and regional or global plans, giving you flexibility depending on how many destinations you're visiting. Installation is guided step by step, and you can install the eSIM before your trip so it's ready to activate when you land.
App Experience & Interface
The Airalo app is clean, modern, and easy to navigate. The home screen presents popular destinations front and center, and searching for a specific country is instant. Each destination page clearly lists available plans with data allowance, validity period, and price, with no hidden fees or confusing tiers. One standout feature is the ability to top up data on existing eSIMs without purchasing a new one, which is incredibly convenient for extended trips. The app also includes a built-in data usage tracker so you always know how much you've consumed. Push notifications alert you when your data is running low, giving you time to top up before you're disconnected. Overall, the user experience feels polished and purpose-built for travelers.
Plans & Pricing
Airalo's pricing is competitive, especially for popular travel destinations. Plans start as low as $4.50 for 1 GB of data, making it one of the most affordable entry points in the eSIM market. For high-usage travelers, larger plans (10 GB or 20 GB) offer better per-gigabyte value. Regional plans covering areas like Europe, Asia, or Africa can be more cost-effective than buying individual country plans if you're visiting multiple destinations. Global plans are also available, though they tend to be pricier and are best suited for multi-continent trips. Compared to traditional roaming charges or even airport SIM cards, Airalo consistently undercuts the competition on price. The only downside is that plans are data-only, meaning no voice calls or SMS included, though most travelers rely on WhatsApp or similar apps anyway.
Network Coverage & Speed
Airalo partners with local carriers in each country, which means you get native network coverage rather than being routed through a single global carrier. In our testing across multiple countries in Europe and Southeast Asia, speeds were generally excellent, fast enough for video calls, streaming, and heavy browsing. In major cities, we consistently saw 4G LTE speeds above 30 Mbps. Rural areas showed expected slowdowns but remained usable for messaging and navigation. One thing to note is that network quality varies by destination since it depends on the local carrier Airalo partners with. In popular tourist destinations like Japan, Thailand, and most of Western Europe, coverage is outstanding. In some less-traveled regions, speeds may be less consistent, but still functional for essential travel needs.
Customer Support
Airalo provides 24/7 customer support through in-app live chat and email. Response times on live chat are typically under five minutes, which is impressive for a travel service. The support agents are knowledgeable and can walk you through troubleshooting steps if your eSIM isn't connecting properly. They also have an extensive help center with articles covering common issues like installation problems, APN settings, and device compatibility. For most users, the self-service resources will be sufficient. The setup guides are clear and well-illustrated. Where Airalo falls slightly short is the lack of phone support, which some users may prefer when dealing with urgent connectivity issues while abroad. That said, the live chat is responsive enough that this is a minor inconvenience rather than a dealbreaker.
Who Should Use Airalo?
Airalo is ideal for a wide range of travelers. Budget-conscious backpackers will appreciate the low starting prices and pay-as-you-go flexibility. Business travelers benefit from the reliable coverage in major cities worldwide and the ability to manage multiple eSIMs for different regions. Frequent flyers who visit the same destinations regularly can quickly repurchase or top up familiar plans. Families traveling together can set up individual eSIMs on each device without the hassle of physical SIM cards. The only group that might want to look elsewhere is travelers who need unlimited data. Airalo's capped plans mean you need to monitor usage, and heavy streamers or remote workers downloading large files may find themselves topping up frequently. For everyone else, Airalo offers an unbeatable combination of affordability, coverage, and ease of use.
Final Thoughts
Airalo has earned its reputation as one of the leading eSIM providers for good reason. The app is intuitive, pricing is transparent and competitive, and coverage spans 200+ countries through reliable local carrier partnerships. The ability to install eSIMs before your trip, top up existing plans, and track data usage in real time makes it a genuinely useful travel companion. While the lack of unlimited data plans and phone-based customer support are minor drawbacks, they don't overshadow the overall experience. For most international travelers, Airalo is the easiest and most cost-effective way to stay connected abroad. If you're new to eSIMs, Airalo is an excellent place to start, and if you're already an eSIM convert, it's likely the provider you'll keep coming back to.
